Monterey Fire Prevention Memo about 4th of July safety
California has been experiencing devastating fire seasons with large losses of lives, property, and environment. Use of fireworks for the Fourth-of-July holiday creates a major threat for increased fires. Every year about 10,000 people are injured in the United States by fireworks. The City of Monterey asks that you do your patriotic duty to reduce the risk by not using fireworks when celebrating the Fourth-of-July. In the City you may be subject to a $1000 fine if you are caught using any type of fireworks (including those marked as "Safe & Sane"). Thank you for enjoying the holiday responsibly and safely.
