Updates from the Monterey Sports Center!
As many of you know, Governor Newsom announced new criteria for restrictions on activities for counties across the state utilizing COVID-19 metrics back in August. Under the new program-Blueprint for a Safer Economy-Monterey County is still in the most restrictive category of “widespread” due to high rates of new positive cases per 100,000 people. In this category, gyms and fitness centers may only offer outdoor programming.
To move forward, the county must meet the next tier’s criteria for two consecutive weeks. When the metrics allow for Monterey County to move to the next tier, “substantial”, gyms and fitness centers may open indoor operations at limited capacity. When Monterey County moves to the third tier, “moderate”, gyms and fitness centers may increase indoor capacity and open indoor pools.
We will continue to watch the numbers and if we see that opening is a possibility, we will reach out and let you know when and how the Monterey Sports Center will reopen. Our last reopening went very well with important safety measures in place that protected the many members, guests, and staff who returned.
All memberships have been frozen since March 13, 2020. We will notify you about how to reactivate your membership when we are ready to reopen. In the meantime, please check out our extensive outdoor group exercise schedule!
We are adding early morning, afternoon and evening classes in November. Healthy Start with Lauri on Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30pm begins November 3. This class combines easy to follow low impact aerobics, functional strength training, core work and stretching. It’s a great beginner, low impact or recovery class suited for all levels of fitness.
Attention cycling enthusiasts! Starting November 3, evening classes are back at 5:30pm on Tuesday with Kadria and Thursday with Martin.
For our early birds...Bootcamp with Terri at 6:15am begins Thursday, November 5.
Due to popular demand, we are adding another Functional Strength class on Fridays at 12pm with Lauri starting November 6.
As all classes are outdoors, please dress in layers and bring a towel, water, personal mat and a hat during daylight hours.
Last but not least, we are hosting a virtual zoom Yoga and Meditation Workshop with Katie Dutcher and Gina Puccinelli on Saturday, November 21.
Our goal is to provide health and wellness to our community at any age! Registration and payment ($8 per class, $35 virtual Yoga/Meditation Workshop) are required for all members and guests and must be done in advance from our website, montereysportscenter.org. Here's the outdoor group exercise schedule and information on how to register.
