City of Monterey TERMINATES EMERGENCY ORDER
At the February 21, 2023 City Council Meeting, Council adopted a Resolution terminating the local emergency and related COVID-19 resolutions and ordinances, effective February 28, 2023. They also extended existing temporary outdoor business permits and outdoor heaters on the wharves until December 31, 2023. The City of Monterey declared a local COVID-19 emergency on March 14, 2020, and it lasted 1,082 days. For details, please reference these resources:

- Week of March 28, 2022: On March 29 the CDC updated COVID-19 booster shot guidance for several groups. The CDC updated its recommendations to allow certain immunocompromised individuals and people over the age of 50 who received an initial booster dose at least four months ago to be eligible for another mRNA booster to increase their protection against severe disease from COVID-19. For those who qualify and had the JJ vaccine, they can get a Moderna or Pfizer booster. Also see the California SMARTER Plan - we still may have additional surges of positive cases due to subvariants of the virus. We are not yet at an endemic phase.
- Week of March 7, 2022: The U.S. government is offering additional free COVID-19 at-home test kits. Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order two sets of four free at-home COVID-19 tests.
