06/07/2018: Nixle Alerts

The Monterey Police Department is now using the Nixle alert system to notify community members of critical information. The Nixle alert system is in use by many government agencies across the U.S. and allows the MPD to make notifications via text message, social media, and email. The system will allow people to receive information and updates on events, public safety emergencies, dangerous weather, and traffic advisories.

The Monterey Police Department (MPD) has seen an increase in property crimes in recent months, specifically automobile and residential burglaries. The MPD would like to remind people to ensure that they lock their vehicles and not leave items of value in the vehicle and specifically not leave them in plain sight. Additionally, homes and garages should be closed and locked.

05/15/2018: Monterey Police Department to Provide Nationally Recognized Training on Responding to Critical Incidents and Use of Force

On Wednesday, May 16, 2018, the Monterey Police Department will hold a training program designed to give officers a strong foundation in critical thinking as it relates to responding to crisis related incidents and potential use of force situations. The training, termed ‘Integrating Communications, Assessment and Tactics’ (ICAT) has been designed to give officers the tools, skills and options to safely diffuse a wide variety of critical incidents that could potentially result in the use of force.

On April 26, 2018 at approximately 4:40PM, the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT), with the assistance of the Seaside Police Department, Marina Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and the US Drug Enforcement Administration, served a search warrant in the 1500 block of Vallejo Street in the City of Seaside. During the search, Investigators located thirteen ounces of methamphetamine, narcotics packaging materials, a loaded handgun, and over $35,000 in cash. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

04/12/2018: The 23rd anniversary of Operation Chill

This summer, the Monterey Police Department will be dispensing well-deserved Slurpee justice to good kids in Monterey. For the 23rd year, 7-Eleven is working with local police and Sheriff’s departments to distribute free Slurpee drink coupons to children and youth through its popular Operation Chill community-service program.
