In 2020, the City of Monterey is celebrating the 250th anniversary of its founding in 1770. To commemorate this historic milestone, the City of Monterey is calling for artists to submit proposals for a mural and sculpture. The unveiling of new and permanent public art will be a part of a series of celebrations in the summer of 2020.
On April 10th, 2019 at 1:22 PM, PRVNT, with the assistance of the Seaside Police Department and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, served a search warrant in the 1700 block of Kenneth Street, Seaside. Upon searching the residence, detectives located approximately a half pound of methamphetamine, one ounce of heroin, two pounds of marijuana, and numerous prescription pills. Detectives also located scales, bags, and other evidence of ongoing narcotic sales at the residence.
The City of Monterey, Monterey Fire and Police Departments, and the Presidio of Monterey are planning a test of an emergency evacuation route for the public through the Presidio from Pine Street to High Street gates. On Saturday, April 13th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. residents will have an opportunity to use the travel route to test the mechanics of a potential evacuation through the Presidio of Monterey. In March of 2019, Monterey Peninsula law enforcement agencies observed an increase in vehicle thefts. The following agencies reported vehicle thefts in that month:
Marina Police Department – 7 vehicle thefts.
Seaside Police Department – 9 vehicle thefts.
Monterey Police Department – 6 vehicle thefts.
Pacific Grove Police Department- 2 vehicle thefts.
Carmel Police Department – 1 vehicle theft.
