08/1/2019: Resources to Help Navigate Monterey Car Week, August 9-18

 In partnership with the City of Monterey and other local agencies, the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau created a comprehensive Monterey Car Week packet of resources along with a guide to the events. Monterey Car Week, August 9 – 18, is one of the biggest annual events on the Peninsula. With tens of thousands of visitors expected, traffic and parking will be impacted. 07/22/2019: Measure S Street Paving Scheduled For North Fremont as Part of Bike and Pedestrian Access and Safety Improvements Project

Paving  operations  are  scheduled for  July  23  –  July  27,  2019  on  North Fremont Street and from Casanova Avenue to Casa Verde Way. To minimize impacts to residents and businesses, crews are combining paving operations from the North Fremont Bike  &  Pedestrian  Access  and  Safety  Improvements  Project  with paving for the existing asphalt shoulder/parking areas along North Fremont Street as part of Monterey’s Measure S Fixing Streets Initiative. 07/16/2019: PRVNT Homicide Arrests

On 5/21/19 at 1:12 PM, a homicide occurred in the City of Seaside. The victim, Tremain Calloway was shot multiple times while driving in the area of 1500 Yosemite Street. Calloway died at the scene of his injuries. The Seaside Police Department and the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT) investigated the homicide. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

07/09/2019: Be Prepared in Case of an Earthquake - What to do before, during, and after

The recent strong earthquakes that hit the Ridgecrest area in Southern California are a good reminder that we all live in earthquake country. Many earthquake faults run through or near the Monterey Peninsula. The Monterey Fire Department would like to remind people that, while we may not know when the next earthquake will happen, we can do things to be prepared. A list of recommended actions on what to do before, during, and after an earthquake is available at ready.gov/earthquakes, as well as on the City’s website at monterey.org/emergency. 07/06/2019: Attempted Homicide

On July 6, 2019 at approximately 8:43 P.M., the Monterey Police Department (MPD) responded to multiple calls of a large fight involving approximately fifteen to twenty subjects in the area of Figueroa Street and Del Monte Avenue. One witness related they observed one of the subjects with a gun. When Monterey Police arrived at the scene, they were advised that a subject pulled a gun and pointed it at several people and pulled the trigger. The victims heard a click and the magazine from the firearm fell to the ground. The victims tackled the suspect and the suspect then escaped when a second suspect pulled a knife and threatened the victims. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF
