03/22/2018: Robbery, Stolen Property, Firearms Arrests

On February 26, 2018 the Monterey Police Department investigated a strong armed robbery that occurred at Macy’s in the Del Monte Shopping Center at 1410 Munras Avenue in Monterey. The suspect in that case attempted to steal merchandise from the store and was involved in a physical altercation with store loss prevention employees before escaping. Witnesses observed the suspect fleeing in a BMW SUV which had been previously reported stolen out of Monterey on February 16, 2018. Upon reviewing video surveillance from the store, officers identified the suspect as Christopher Watts, 51 of Salinas.

03/21-2018: Colton Hall Accessibiltiy Improvements Begin - Museum and offices to remain open during construction

Accessibility improvements began this week to historic Colton Hall, where California’s constitution was written and signed in 1849. Home to a museum upstairs and the Planning and Museums and Cultural Arts offices downstairs, the upgrades include reconstructing the back stairs and deck and adding a vertical stair lift to provide Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access to the second floor, replacing the current two restrooms with one ADA compliant restroom that will accommodate a wheelchair, adding an access ramp in the rear courtyard, and configuring an adjacent ADA parking area.

03/14/2018: Extenet Withdraws 12 of 13 Small Cell Facility Applications

The City of Monterey Planning Office was informed today that Extenet Systems, Inc, the applicant for the 13 small cell facilities proposed for the Monterey Vista, Skyline, and Old Town Neighborhoods, has withdrawn 12 of the 13 applications. These applications were scheduled for the Planning Commission's March 15, 2018 agenda for consideration.

03/08/2018: Felony Battery Arrest

On March 7, 2018 at approximately 7:43 pm, Monterey Police Officers responded to a report of a battery in the 300 block of Alvarado Street. A male allegedly punched the victim in the head and knocked the victim to the ground. The suspect left the scene prior to police arrival. The victim was transported to CHOMP for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

05/14/2018: Monterey Community Band Spring Concert, June 3, 2018

The Monterey Community Band presents: “Bernstein - 100 years”, a tribute to a great 20th century composer, conductor and social activist. The concert will also feature Bernstein’s contemporaries, Stephen Sondheim, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter. Soloist, Jeffrey Thompson will croon beautiful ballads accompanied by pianist George Peterson. Harpist extraordinaire Pamela Schotz will perform solo and with the band. Come hear Monterey’s best conducted by Kristen Thompson on Sunday, June 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the Monterey Peninsula College Music Room.
