The City of Monterey was honored with two awards and a third nomination at the Clean Air Leaders Awards Ceremony last night, hosted by the Monterey Bay Air Resources District. The awards recognize initiatives undertaken by individuals, organizations and agencies in Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties.
The City of Monterey, the Old Monterey Business Association, Monterey County Pops!, and the Monterey Firefighters Association will host a full day of events for family, friends and the whole community this July 4th. Monterey Firefighters will begin the day with a pancake breakfast at Fire headquarters. The festivities continue with the popular downtown Fourth of July Parade, followed by the Big Little Backyard Bar-B-Que and Entertainment Extravaganza on the Colton Hall lawn, topped off with an evening of patriotic music at the Golden State Theatre. These events are open to the public and alcohol free. Events begin at 7:00 a.m. and continue until 8:30 p.m.
“There’s no better place to enjoy the birthday of our country than Monterey, the birth place of California,” said Mayor Clyde Roberson. “We look forward to joining both residents and visitors in a day-long celebration of our city and country.”
City Manager Mike McCarthy today announced the appointment of Allyson Hauck as the City’s new Human Resources Director. Hauck was previously a partner with the law firm Renne Sloan Holtzman Sakai LLP in San Francisco, practicing in the areas of labor and employment law. She served as the Chief Negotiator for public agencies during collective bargaining with represented employees; the City of Monterey being one of her clients.
The Monterey Police Department (MPD) has received a grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to conduct Impact Inspection. The objective of the inspection was to conduct visits of licensed premises to reduce alcohol related crimes in and around licensed establishments.

The City Council Study Session meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 580 Pacific Street. Meetings are broadcast live on the Monterey Channel and streamed on the web.
STUDY SESSION meetings are used to provide information to the City Council and answer their questions to clarify issues. Study Sessions provide a setting for informal discussions between staff, consultants, board, commission, committee members and the City Council regarding specific programs, projects or policies. Council does not take formal action on the items.
