Play sports and make new friends? At Sports Camp Plus the emphasis is on fun and sportsmanship. Youths, ages 6-12 will participate in over 30 different sports activities each week such as Swimming, basketball, football, capture the flag, soccer, floor hockey and more. Campers also take a field trip to Dennis the Menace Park. For only $22.00 per week Sports Camp Plus Swim lessons are available.
The City Council, at the April 17 evening City Council meeting, will consider a recommendation from the Planning Commission to amend the Cannery Row Local Coastal Land Use Plan (LUP) to allow residential uses: 1) on the street level; and, 2) to exceed 30 dwelling units per acre.
Dr. Terrance Moran, a practicing cardiologist with Prima Heart, will present a free public presentation on cholesterol and lipid management at the Monterey Sports Center on Saturday, April 14th, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dr. Moran is the former Director of Cardiac Wellness and the Advanced Lipid Management Program at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and a frequent presenter on the prevention and treatment of cholesterol and blood lipid issues.
ExteNet Systems did not submit an appeal of the March 15, 2018 Planning Commission decision by the deadline. The Planning Commission, at a special meeting, unanimously denied the small cell facility application. Just a day prior to the meeting, ExteNet withdrew 12 of their 13 applications.
On February 17, 2018 at 12:25 P.M. Monterey Police Officers responded to a report of a strong armed robbery at the Del Monte Shopping Center at 1401 Munras Avenue in Monterey. The elderly victim reported she was walking on foot when she was approached from behind by the suspect who grabbed her purse. The suspect forcefully pulled the purse from the victim knocking her to the ground. The suspect was with another male and both fled the area and were not located. They were described as two black males possibly in their teens or twenties. The victim later required medical attention as a result of the fall for moderate injuries.

City Council Study Session
The City Council Study Session meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 580 Pacific Street. Meetings are broadcast live on the Monterey Channel and streamed on the web. Study session meetings are used to provide information to the City Council and answer their questions to clarify issues. Study Sessions provide a setting for informal discussions between staff, consultants, board, commission, committee members and the City Council regarding specific programs, projects or policies. Council does not take formal action on the items.

05/09/2018: Community Input Wanted For Public Use of a Portion of the Coast Guard Pier
The City of Monterey will host a community discussion about a proposed project to develop a portion of the Coast Guard Pier for public use. Please join the discussion on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at 4 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at 580 Pacific Street to help guide policy makers in creating the best-use facility for residents and visitors of Monterey’s waterfront.

05/14/2018: Monterey Community Band Spring Concert, June 3, 2018
The Monterey Community Band presents: “Bernstein - 100 years”, a tribute to a great 20th century composer, conductor and social activist. The concert will also feature Bernstein’s contemporaries, Stephen Sondheim, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter. Soloist, Jeffrey Thompson will croon beautiful ballads accompanied by pianist George Peterson. Harpist extraordinaire Pamela Schotz will perform solo and with the band. Come hear Monterey’s best conducted by Kristen Thompson on Sunday, June 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the Monterey Peninsula College Music Room.
