04/23/2018: Three Presentations by Local US Olympic Team Members Supports Commitment to Healthy Eating and Active Living "HEAL" Program

Recently the City of Monterey joined the Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) Initiative. The HEAL Cities Campaign aims to reduce and prevent obesity by engaging municipal leaders to champion healthy eating and active living in their communities through adoption of policy and promotion of opportunities for residents and municipal employees. In conjunction with this promise, the Monterey Sports Center is hosting three local United States (U.S.) Olympic team members to share their knowledge and experience and to promote an active living life style.

This summer, the Monterey Police Department will be dispensing well-deserved Slurpee justice to good kids in Monterey. For the 23rd year, 7-Eleven is working with local police and Sheriff’s departments to distribute free Slurpee drink coupons to children and youth through its popular Operation Chill community-service program.

04/04/2018: Response to Hazmat Incident

On April 4, 2018 at approximately 11:39 a.m., the Monterey Police Department, the Monterey Fire Department, and Monterey County Hazmat responded to the Portola Plaza Hotel, at Two Portola Plaza, Monterey, regarding a possible hazmat exposure.  Upon arrival, it was determined someone had discharged a substance consistent with Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) pepper spray inside one of the hotel rooms.  Several employees were exposed to the spray and went to a local hospital for treatment.

05/14/2018: Monterey Community Band Spring Concert, June 3, 2018

The Monterey Community Band presents: “Bernstein - 100 years”, a tribute to a great 20th century composer, conductor and social activist. The concert will also feature Bernstein’s contemporaries, Stephen Sondheim, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter. Soloist, Jeffrey Thompson will croon beautiful ballads accompanied by pianist George Peterson. Harpist extraordinaire Pamela Schotz will perform solo and with the band. Come hear Monterey’s best conducted by Kristen Thompson on Sunday, June 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the Monterey Peninsula College Music Room.
