Thank you to all of the volunteers who came out to our Arbor Day event! We hosted two volunteer tree planting projects at Quarry Park and Laguna Grande Park last Friday. We planted Sycamores, Buckeyes, Western Redbud, Monterey Pine and Big Leaf Maples. Monterey celebrated being an Arbor Day Foundation "Tree City USA" for 36 years. On April 26, 2018 at approximately 4:40PM, the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT), with the assistance of the Seaside Police Department, Marina Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and the US Drug Enforcement Administration, served a search warrant in the 1500 block of Vallejo Street in the City of Seaside. During the search, Investigators located thirteen ounces of methamphetamine, narcotics packaging materials, a loaded handgun, and over $35,000 in cash. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

Recently the City of Monterey joined the Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) Initiative. The HEAL Cities Campaign aims to reduce and prevent obesity by engaging municipal leaders to champion healthy eating and active living in their communities through adoption of policy and promotion of opportunities for residents and municipal employees. In conjunction with this promise, the Monterey Sports Center is hosting three local United States (U.S.) Olympic team members to share their knowledge and experience and to promote an active living life style.
The Monterey Amberjacks professional baseball team is back for season two in Monterey. This year they are offering one-day camps for youth ages six to 17 years old.

City Council Study Session
The City Council Study Session meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 580 Pacific Street. Meetings are broadcast live on the Monterey Channel and streamed on the web. Study session meetings are used to provide information to the City Council and answer their questions to clarify issues. Study Sessions provide a setting for informal discussions between staff, consultants, board, commission, committee members and the City Council regarding specific programs, projects or policies. Council does not take formal action on the items.
