The City of Monterey today announced the appointment of hospitality veteran, Doug Phillips, as General Manager of the Monterey Conference Center. Spanning a distinguished 30-year career in the hospitality industry, Phillips has served as Director of Sales & Marketing for the Town and Country Resort & Convention Center in San Diego, Executive Assistant Manager/Director of Sales & Marketing for the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa, Director of Operation and Director of Sales & Marketing for Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and worked with other properties in California, Hawaii, Washington and Colorado.
On Friday, August 19,2016, in response to recent Armed Robberies of three gas stations committed in Monterey County, a search warrant was served at two locations in the City of Soledad and one location in the City of Salinas. The Greenfield Police Department, in partnership with the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT) conducted a joint investigation resulting in the arrest of Julian Gasca for the armed robberies.
Construction of the Holman Highway 68 Roundabout will require night-time road construction from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the nights of Wednesday August 24 and Thursday August 25.
In mid 2012, the Cities of Monterey and Morro Bay were awarded a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant to develop Community Sustainability Plans (CSP), one for each City. Community Sustainability Plans are cited in the Magnuson Stevens Act (MSA) as one potential method to avoid negative impacts in small fishing communities of the newly instated catch share program.
The intersection of Franklin and Van Buren streets will be closed portions of Monday and Tuesday, August 15 and 16 for sewer work. Additionally, Van Buren between Franklin and Jefferson will be closed to through traffic for the remainder of the week. Detours and a traffic control plan will be in place and parking in the area will be affected. The work is part of package 3 of the Sewer Rehabilitation Project happening citywide.

Movie in the Park on June 22
Monterey Firefighters present Movie in the Park, featuring Disney's "Moana". The film will begin at 8 p.m. on the Colton Hall lawn on Friday, June 22. Family activities will begin at 6 p.m. including fire engine tours, face painting, My Museum's Wheelie Mobilee and much more. Free popcorn and cotton candy while supplies last.

The Monterey Skate Jam will be held next Saturday, June 23. Check-in at 9:00am, Contest starts at 10:00am. Open to ages 6 & Up. Prizes for everyone in attendance.

The City Council Study Session meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 580 Pacific Street. Meetings are broadcast live on the Monterey Channel and streamed on the web. Study session meetings are used to provide information to the City Council and answer their questions to clarify issues. Study Sessions provide a setting for informal discussions between staff, consultants, board, commission, committee members and the City Council regarding specific programs, projects or policies. Council does not take formal action on the items.
