Sidewalk service hold pickup is available Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 6pm.

How Does It Work?

Follow the 4 Easy Steps for Sidewalk Hold Pickup Service

Step 1: Place your items on hold.
You can place items on hold online or over the phone.

Step 2: Wait for notification.
When your hold is ready, you’ll receive an email or letter notification.

Step 3: Arrive at the library during curb-side pickup hours with your Monterey Public Library or Pacific Grove Public Card or ID and mask
When you arrive at the library, wait in line, observing 6' physical distancing

Step 4: When you arrive at the pickup table, hold your card, barcode side up under the scanner until it beeps.
Staff will retrieve and check out your items, then slide them to you.

You will receive a notice either via email (if we have your email address) or postal mail.

Your library card (or an id). You will also need to wear a face mask.

You can apply for a replacement card online. If your hold is about to expire and you have not received your new card, bring an ID with you.

Holds are available for 7 days. The last day to pick it up can be found on your hold pickup notice.

All holds for the pickup on the Bookmobile have been changed to be picked up at the Library.

All holds for the pickup at the Pacific Grove Library have been changed to be picked up at the Monterey Public Library.

Deliveries of materials from the Pacific Grove Library are received on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Pacific Grove Library is in the process of moving to their remodeled building with a severely reduced staff, so there may be delay before the item is retrieved from their shelves.

Unfortunately we don’t have the staff to be able to immediately retrieve items from the shelves. Please place your requests online via the catalog or by calling us at (831) 646-3933. You will receive a notice when the item is ready to be picked up.

All returned books are quarantined for 4 days before placed on the hold shelf. Staff wear masks while working and frequently wash hands/use hand sanitizer. High-touch areas are sanitized frequently. Customers are requested to wear masks and maintain physical distancing when picking up holds.
