Shades of Monterey: Local Stories

Last summer, in partnership with the StoryCenter, Monterey Public Library hosted a two day workshop with local residents to create digital stories about their lives. As part of the California Listens project, these local stories were featured in a collection of stories throughout libraries in California.

We are currently using our Listening Station to collect interview style stories from community members to build up our collection of local stories. Together with the Digital Stories, the Listening Station stories will chronicle history and life experiences from the viewpoints of people in the Monterey Community.

The Monterey Public Library has been awarded California Listens 2019 Special Consulting and Project Support. On Sunday, June 30th we will partner with the Berkeley-based non-profit StoryCenter to host two half day digital story-based workshops. The films created at the workshop will also be part of the Shades of Monterey-Local Stories Collection.

To learn more, or sign up for a workshop contact Adult Services & Outreach Librarian Sarah Nolan at (831) 646-3949 or nolan@monterey.org.

These stories have been reviewed and approved by the storyteller/participant. Monterey Public Library is free to share them as part of the Library's normal promotional, archival or documentation activities.  They can not be shared independently of the Library's efforts, or transferred in any way to another entity or organization without the written consent of the authors.
