Workshop Day

If you would like to submit a piece (5-6 pages worth of material) please e-mail it to: harris@monterey.org at least 24 hours before the meeting so that copies can be made for group members to read and discuss. Only 2 submissions can be taken for each Workshop Day, please contact me as soon as you know you would like to submit. If you have already submitted before, your next submission will be placed on a waiting list, so other members may have a chance to bring something. If there are no submissions from a writer we have not workshopped before, your work will be printed. I will keep you all notified, so you will know submission time is closed and who is on schedule to be critiqued.

Hiring a good Editor

If you are going to self-publish, you need an editor. Some authors even hire an editor, before they submit their work to an agent or publisher and claim that they wouldn’t have gotten their deals if not for an editor cleaning up their original manuscript. How do you go about finding a reputable editor that is suited for your work? Do you know there are different types of editors, or that editors can specialize in certain genres. Certain editors, though they are highly rated, may not be suited for your work. Protect your dollar, because editors can be EXPENSIVE. Let’s discuss this topic together.

What Method of Publishing Is Right For You

Traditional publication is not the only way to go anymore, as more and more people self publish. However, there is also a thing known as hybrid publishing, and there are also small and medium size presses in competition with larger presses and the Big 5. If you don’t know what any of this means, you will love this discussion.
