“I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat,” wrote Edgar Allen Poe, born January 19, 1809.  Poe, whose work focused on the dark side of life, is credited with being the inventor of the detective fiction story, although it was left to others to create full novels in the genre.  His first work of this type was “Murders in the Rue Morgue”, a short story published in Graham’s Magazine in 1841.
