To celebrate William Shakespeare's 400th death anniversary, Penguin Random House Group, led by Hogarth UK and US, will release a series of novels by well-known and award winning authors, who will re-imagine several of Shakespeare's plays in novel form, The first, The Gap of Time by Jeanette Waterson has already been released. The Library will feature Waterson's novel in its 2016 Literary Circle line-up, read together with the original play. Additional novels coming out this year will be Howard Jacobson's inspired by The Merchant of Venice, Anne Tyler's inspired by The Taming of the Shrew, and Margaret Atwood's retelling of The Tempest, but with a different title.
This is an exciting series to look forward to over the next year - not only a wonderful excuse to read some of today's most notable authors by a chance to re-read some of the original plays that will provide the themes for their novels. Other authors participating in the project are Tracy Chevalier, Gillian Flynn, Edward S. Aubyn, and Jo Nesbo.
