Teen Summer Reading 2015

Read to the Rhythm (Ages 12-18)

**Click here to go to the Teen Summer Reading 2015 Blog Challenge.**

Summer Reading starts on June 6, 2015.  Join us for the Summer Reading Kick-Off Party on June 6, 2015, beginning at 1:00 pm, to sign up and to participate in the festivities. (If you can't make the party, don't worry; you can still sign up for the program at a later date. Just come into the library when you have the time.)

If you're wondering if Summer Reading for Teens is for you, you can read the guidelines for the program on this page.  Now, keep in mind, these are only the rules and what's going to be offered.  I won't post the "Blog Challenge" mentioned in them until after the Summer Reading Kick-Off date.  If you have questions, please contact me at: harris@monterey.org.  Also, always check the Book Bratz Blog, the Teen Clubs and Teen Events pages for updates.

Teen Summer Reading Program 2015 (Ages 12-18)

What makes the Teen Summer Reading Program different than the Kid Summer Reading Program? Well, one thing we acknowledge is that you are busy in the summer (sleeping, eating, working, vacationing, sleeping, etc), so this is a program you can do on your own time. You really only have to show up once to get this packet, and then one more time to cash in on your Summer Reading Rewards. Does that sound good? We hope so, because if you picked up this packet you are in it to win it. Please read through the rest of this information to find out how to fully participate and win.

Participation

There are three ways to participate, and you don’t have to pick just one; you can do them all if you like. We’d love it if you did.

  1. Keep a Reader’s Log.
  • The goal for this summer is to read for 600 minutes (10 hours). If you break that up, it's 120 minutes (or 2 hours) a week.  You can do that!
  • Record the number of minutes you read on your log, and come in once a week for a stamp on your MYO card, or come in when you’ve completed your 600 minutes to receive all of your MYO stamps at once.
  • When your MYO card is completely stamped not only do you get free yogurt, but you get a coupon for a free slice of pizza from Pizza My Heart. You also get your name put in a drawing for a $25 dollar gift card for any one of these places: Chipotle, MYO, Jamba Juice, Century Theater, Starbucks, and The Chocolate Dipper.
  • The drawing for the gift cards will be done on the last day to turn in your Reader’s Logs, August 29, 2015 at 5:00 PM.
  1. Do the Blog Challenge
  • Click this link to go to the Blog Challenge!
  • Instructions will be there, but they’re here as well and they’re easy: Read what you want, and tell me about it. For each book you’ve read, write an entry telling me the title, author, what you liked about the book and why.
  • For each entry your name will be put in a drawing for a $25 gift card for any one of these places: Chipotle, MYO, Jamba Juice, Century Theater, Starbucks, and The Chocolate Dipper.  There will be four drawings and depending on the number of participants, you could win more than once.
  • The drawings for the gift cards will be done on the last day to submit a blog entry, August 29, 2015 at 5:00 pm.
  1. Be social and Come to a Program
  • There will be several Teen Programs and Programs for All Ages going on this summer.  Check the calendar in this packet to see which events qualify.
  • For every qualifying event you attend, get your name put in a drawing for a $25 dollar gift card to any one of these places: Chipotle, MYO, Jamba Juice, Century Theater, Starbucks, and The Chocolate Dipper.
  • If you bring friends who are not part of the Teen Summer Reading Program to a qualifying event, your name will be put in the drawing additional times for each extra attendee (who must also be a teen).
  • The drawing for the gift card will be done on August 29, 2015.

Events

Check the calendar inside of this packet to see what’s going on for your age group! You can also look online by clicking on the Teen Events link, or checking the main events calendar. Everything listed is free of charge and snacks are provided.
