Fire Boat, "The Pearl"
The Monterey Fire Department's jurisdiction includes protecting the harbor area in the Monterey Bay. This includes 90,000 sq. feet of commercial buildings on the city's two wharves and nearly 600 boats in the harbor. To help with this mission is the city's fire boat. The 34-foot aluminum fire boat has an enclosed cabin and a combined pump and engine that will shoot larger amounts of water than the department's previous boat, a 13-foot prototype inflatable.
