On September 6th, 2020 at approximately 3:44 PM, a Monterey Police Department (MPD) Officer was driving in the 400 block of Figueroa when he observed a subject standing along the edge of the roadway yelling. The subject was agitated and aggressive with clenched fists and he appeared to be yelling at passing cars or other pedestrians on the sidewalk. As the officer stopped to check on the subject’s welfare he quickly got into a parked truck. When the officer approached the truck to speak with the subject, the subject yelled at the officer and threatened to kill him. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

09/08/2020: Labor Day Weekend Enforcement Report

In an effort to reduce large public gatherings and slow the spread of COVID-19, all Monterey County beaches were closed over Labor Day weekend. Monterey city beach closures were announced through several methods including social media, in the press, on digital displays along roadways, and at the entrances to each beach. Additionally, metal, wooden, and plastic fencing barricades were placed at some entrances to increase public awareness of the closures. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

On August 29th, 2020 at approximately 4:58 PM, a Monterey Police Officer observed a black Dodge Ram 2500 truck traveling on Del Monte Avenue near English Avenue violating the vehicle code. The officer attempted to stop the driver and the subject refused to stop and a short pursuit ensued, wherein the suspect drove in an erratic and dangerous manner. On September 2nd, 2020 at 2:30 PM, Monterey Police Officers were dispatched to the Monterey Peninsula College at 980 Fremont regarding a report of a burglary. Electronic items including laptops and camera equipment were reported stolen. During the subsequent investigation, officers located video surveillance footage of the suspect during the burglary. On August 31st, 2020 at 9:10 AM, Monterey Police Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Tyler Street regarding a report of a theft from an unlocked vehicle. During the subsequent investigation, officers located video surveillance footage of the suspect during the theft. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF
