On April 22nd, 2020 at 7:36 AM, Monterey Police Officers were dispatched to the Marriot hotel at 350 Calle Principal regarding a report of two subjects trespassing. The business reported locating two people inside of a hotel room that was off limits to the public. Monterey Police Officers contacted John Fontenot, 34 of Emeryville, and Nicole Stearns, 26 years old of Paramount, at the business and ultimately placed them under arrest for trespassing and possession of stolen property taken from the hotel. 04/15/2020: Fatal Motorcycle Incident

On April 14th, 2020 at 4:26 PM, Monterey Police Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Del Monte Avenue regarding a report of a single vehicle motorcycle collision. As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist - a 59 year old resident of Seaside - was transported to Natividad Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased. Witnesses reported the motorcyclist was traveling Westbound on Del Monte in the 2400 block when he lost control of the motorcycle and struck the raised center median. Del Monte Avenue was closed for approximately 45 minutes while officers investigated the collision. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

The City of Monterey announced today that a new public advisory to fight the COVID-19 pandemic went into effect to ensure that users of the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail remain within the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
