On August 8, 2020 at approximately 12:45 a.m., Monterey Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a residential burglary in progress in the 300 block of Hannon Avenue. The occupants of the residence reported waking up to find an unknown subject inside the residence. The suspect was later described as slender, approximately 5-08 tall, possibly male, wearing dark clothing. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF
On July 27, 2020, Richard Thompson, age 39 of Seaside was involved in two physical altercations that were separated by approximately seven hours in the City of Monterey. Thompson suffered injuries in both altercations and was treated at local hospitals after both incidents. After being treated and released after the first incident, Thompson was involved in the second incident, where he was burglarizing a local business. On August 10, 2020, Thompson died while in the hospital where he had been since the second incident. Thompson’s death was ruled a homicide by the Monterey County Coroner’s Office. The Monterey Police Department (MPD) investigated both incidents and arrested the subject that assaulted Thompson in the first incident, for assault with a deadly weapon. On July 24, 2020 at approximately 2317 hours, Monterey Police Officers were dispatched to reports of a possible shooting in the area of Hannon and Toyon. Officers arrived on scene and located a group of males who appeared to be in a heated argument. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF
On July 11, 2020, at approximately 11:01 p.m., Monterey Police Officers responded to a 911 call from a suicidal subject in the area of the Monterey Skate Park. The subject was later identified as Francis Davi, 23, of Monterey, Davi told he dispatcher he was armed with a firearm and wanted to hurt himself. NEWS RELEASE AND PHOTO IN PDF
On July 1, 2020, at approximately 11:40 a.m., Monterey Detectives received information that Hector Amparo, 46, of Salinas, had a felony warrant from Santa Cruz County for burglary and theft. Detectives located Amparo at the Travelodge, 2030 North Fremont, Monterey. NEWS RELEASE AND PHOTOS IN PDF
