On August 26, 2020 at approximately 10:00 a.m., Monterey Police Department (MPD) Detectives, with the assistance of the Seaside PD, Marina PD, and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), served a search warrant in the 1400 block of Via Isola, Monterey. The search warrant was a result of a narcotics investigation involving drug sales and a drug overdose involving the residence. NEWS RELEASE
The National Weather service has issued a red flag warning - a warning that another weather system is in the forecast that includes potential lightning storms. The warning for erratic winds, dry lightning, and possible thunderstorms is effective now through 5:00 PM, Monday, August 24 (see graphic below). NEWS RELEASE IN PDF
On Monday, August 17, 2020 at approximately 9:48 a.m., the Monterey Police Department was advised that Alan Smith, a 38-years old male, of Monterey had manufactured a “zip gun” and possessed ammunition. A “zip gun” is a makeshift object (such as a pipe) altered to accept and fire live ammunition. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF
The City of Monterey and Monterey Police Department (MPD) anticipated increased visitors and traffic issues related to Car Week and the increasing temperatures. The MPD assigned off-duty officers to work the weekend on overtime to assist in addressing these issues. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF
In 2019, MPD saw an increase of speed related violations during car week. MPD issued 109 citations, towed 13 vehicles and arrested three individuals for speed related violations during car week.
Although there are no sanctioned car week events in Monterey due to the COVID19 pandemic, the MPD has increased patrol staffing to address vehicle and speed related issues. On Thursday, August 13, 2020, MPD officers issued 14 citations for speed related violations. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF
