The City of Monterey today announced a Thanksgiving special promotion, #GiveThanksNotCovid. From now through Thanksgiving Day, enter to win a Monterey 250 commemorative poster celebrating Monterey's 250th birthday that took place on June 3, 2020. Participants can win their choice of a DownTown or Cannery Row 18x24 illustrated print designed by local Santa Cruz poster artist Kirby Scudder. Three winners will be drawn each day. Serving on a Board or Commission is a great way to get involved in what makes Monterey a great place to live. The City of Monterey is now accepting applications for the following:

  • Disabled Access Appeals Board
  • Historic Preservation Commission
  • Museums and Cultural Arts Commission
  • Parks and Recreation Commission
  • Neighborhood and Community Improvement Program (NCIP) Committee*

* Applications are being accepted for the NCIP committee for the position of alternate for the following neighborhoods: Aguajito Oaks, Alta Mesa, Deer Flats, Del Monte Beach, Del Monte Grove Laguna Grande, and Glenwood

CHP Monterey Leads Seat Belt Safety Campaign

The California Highway Patrol (CI-IP) Monterey Area, and participating Monterey County law enforcement agencies, will kick off a Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization, reminding everyone that seat belts save lives. Click It or Ticket combines enforcement with a public awareness campaign on television, and social media in both English and Spanish. In an effort to spread the word about the importance of buckling up, the enforcement mobilization will be from November 15-21, 2020. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

11/10/2020: City of Monterey Receives Distinguished Award for Financial Reporting

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Monterey by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2019. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and receiving this honor represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. 11/09/2020: Grant-Funded Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Education Program Planned for City of Monterey

The City of Monterey has been awarded a $40,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Education. 

The one-year grant is for the 2021 federal fiscal year, which runs from October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021. The City of Monterey will use the funding as part of the City’s ongoing commitment to keep our roadways safe and improve the quality of life through education, enforcement and engineering.
