Fire Training

The training division is a critical element of the fire department. This division is responsible for the training, monitoring and certification of fire personnel. It is through proper training techniques that we strive to reduce injuries to our personnel and provide quality of service to our citizens.

TYPES OF TRAINING
High-rise fires are tough fires that place extreme physical demands on fire personnel. The department conducts multi-agency drills with local departments as these types of fires require additional personnel. Fire fighters use stairwells when fighting fires in high-rise buildings. Fire equipment is carried up to the fire floor to extinguish the fire.

Multi-Agency personnel train together as a team in Low Angle Rescue techniques. Local agencies have learned the value in working together to provide specialized rescue.

TRAINING PARTNERSHIPS
The Monterey Fire Department is a member of the Monterey County Fire Training Officers Association and the Monterey County Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team.

Monterey Fire Department personnel train with neighboring fire departments. It is important to review equipment and meet personnel for neighboring departments due to limited resources and the need to rely on each other to get the job done. There are also instances where many agencies will need to work together. We want to provide prompt and professional services in the event of major fire, medical emergency, rescue, environmental disaster or any other event which threatens the public welfare, county wide.
