Local Coastal Program

RRSlides-Planning16Background
The City of Monterey received a $250,000 grant from the California Coastal Commission and Ocean Protection Council to update its Local Coastal Program (LCP). In the 1980s, the City of Monterey divided its coastal planning area into five subareas – Cannery Row, Harbor, Del Monte Beach, Skyline and Laguna Grande. Land use plans were prepared for these areas.  The Coastal Commission ultimately certified each of the land use plans except for the Laguna Grande Land Use Plan. An implementation plan was never prepared.

The LCP update will involve extensive public outreach, the preparation of a single land use plan that consolidates all five subareas, and the preparation of an implementation plan for adoption by the City Council and certification by the California Coastal Commission.

The City welcomes and encourages public participation in the Local Coastal Program process. We have much more information on our public engagement portal, Have Your Say Monterey. Please find it at https://haveyoursaymonterey.org/local-coastal-program.
