Transportation and Parking
Monterey is located off scenic Highway 1 that stretches along the coast. From the north, San Francisco and San Jose, take Route 101 to Highway 156 to Route 1. From the south, Los Angeles, take Route 101 and Highway 68 to Route 1.
Monterey Peninsula Airport provides passenger service to and from Monterey, with daily direct flights to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Denver, San Diego and Las Vegas. Ground transportation to and from the San Francisco and San Jose airports is available from downtown Monterey on Monterey Airbus.

Transportation throughout the region is available from the Simoneau Plaza (the transit area) in downtown Monterey at Pearl, Munras, and Tyler streets. MONTEREY-SALINAS TRANSIT (MST) provides daily bus service throughout Monterey County. Seasonal summer service and winter weekend service to Big Sur and free trolley service along Monterey's waterfront is also provided.

MONTEREY-SALINAS AIRBUS provides 14 trips daily to the San Jose and San Francisco international airports from downtown Monterey.

Greyhound Bus service is not available in Monterey but it is available in Salinas.
AMTRAK Intercity Rail Passenger Services in Salinas are available via bus from the Monterey Transit Plaza in downtown.
The City of Monterey maintains two parking garages within the downtown area. The 1,000 car Cannery Row parking garage serves the Cannery Row and New Monterey business districts. Overall, the City provides 4,106 spaces of off-street parking. In addition, more than 3,000 on-street metered parking spaces throughout the City assure optimum parking availability.
