07/02/2019: Armed Robbery Series Arrest

Subsequent to the media release regarding these cases, PRVNT received several tips from the community regarding the identity of the suspect. Garrett Carter, 27 of Monterey, was identified as a suspect and was located in a vehicle parked in a parking lot in the 300 block of Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey. The Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team and its law enforcement partners are investigating a series of armed robberies on the Monterey Peninsula.On 6/29/19 at 10:14 AM, a robbery occurred at a business in the 400 block of Canyon Del Rey Road in Del Rey Oaks. The suspect entered the business and brandished a handgun at an employee of the business while demanding money. After receiving money, the suspect fled on foot. 06/27/2019: Cities of Monterey and Pacific Grove Solidify Agreement for Fire Services

The City of Monterey and the City of Pacific Grove solidified a new fire contract agreement with the respective approvals of the Monterey and Pacific Grove City Councils at coinciding Special City Council meetings on June 26, 2019. The two Cities have been in partnership for fire services since 2008, at which time Monterey hired all Pacific Grove Firefighters and integrated them into the Monterey Fire Department. The new fire services agreement terms are for eight years, plus another five-year option by mutual agreement of the Cities. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

06/26/2018: City of Monterey Adopts Voluntary Rental Guidelines

At the June 18, 2019  City Council Meeting, the Monterey City Council unanimously adopted Voluntary Rental Guidelines for residential rental owners, managers, and tenants. Aimed at providing a standard of guidelines for landlord/tenant relations, the Voluntary Rental Guidelines provide a platform to support quality agreements between property managers/owners and their tenants. The guidelines also include components to assist each party toward fair and reasonable resolution in situations that warrant mediation.

The community is invited to a public informational session hosted by the City of Monterey and Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS). A panel of representatives from multiple agencies with regulatory oversight authority over cruise ship operations will present information, answer question cards from the public, and address environmental concerns related to large cruise ships visiting Monterey Bay.

06/20/2019: City Manager Uslar Announces Mr. Nat Rojanasathira as Choice for New Assistant City Manager

City Manager Hans Uslar is pleased to announce today the appointment of Mr. Nat Rojanasathira as the new City of Monterey Assistant City Manager. Rojanasathira is a local government management executive with over 16 years of experience, including four years on the Monterey Peninsula where he worked for both the City of Pacific Grove and the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau. He comes back to Monterey from the Town of Danville in the East Bay, where he was Administrative Services Director, acquiring strong experience managing human resources, information technology, finance, economic development, community engagement, special events, performance management, and legislative advocacy. His roles also extend to working closely with libraries, museums, and parks.

06/13/2019: Wildland Fire Safety Inspections Begin June 17, 2019

The Monterey Fire Department will begin conducting fire safety inspections on June 17, 2019, for all homes in areas at risk for a wildland fire within the cities of Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel, and Sand City. This inspection is done on an annual basis to help minimize the spread and growth of a wildland fire and reduce the potential loss of homes in such an event. New this year, inspection personnel will leave a notice at the home indicating the inspection was completed and what, if any, corrective actions should be taken by the homeowner/occupant. The notices will be in the form of a self-adhesive sticker left on or near the door (see example).

Request for Proposals for Community Development On-Call Services

The City of Monterey (“City”) is seeking comprehensive proposals for professional services from qualified firms or individuals to provide planning, housing, environmental, economic development, and/or code enforcement on-call services for the City’s Community Development Department.  This solicitation is not intended to create an exclusive service agreement and multiple contracts may be awarded.  The selected consultant(s) will be contracted with for one year with an option for a two year extension.
