01/12/2018: Wanted Persons Arrest

On 12-09-17, an officer with the Seaside Police Department observed a white Ford F-150 frequently driven by 21 year old Salvatore Ciolino driving near Ciolino’s residence on Mira Monte Ave in Seaside. The vehicle was hauling a dirt-bike style motorcycle in the bed. The officer initiated a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation but the driver accelerated and failed to yield. During the pursuit, the vehicle reached speeds of up to 89 MPH, ran red lights and stop signs, and drove into opposing lanes of traffic. Due to the dangerous conditions, officers terminated their pursuit of the vehicle.

01/11/2018: Traffic Enforcement Officers

On January 7, 2017, the Monterey Police Department (MPD) assigned two officers to traffic positions as part of the Patrol Division. The mission of the traffic officers is to reduce dangerous driving through enforcement of traffic laws. Traffic officers had not been assigned for many years due to staffing limitations. The MPD consistently fields complaints regarding violations of traffic laws and reckless driving and the community requested that the MPD add officers that are specifically devoted to traffic enforcement.

01/10/2017: Robbery, Burglary and Assault Weapon Arrest

On December 12th, 2017 at 2:40PM, Marina Police Officers responded to the Comfort Inn located at 140 Reservation Rd. for a burglary report. While there, officers were notified an armed robbery of a truck driver had just occurred at the same location. Evidence indicated the same suspect committed both the robbery and burglary.

01/02/2018: Attempted Robbery/Assault with a Deadly Weapon Arrests

On December 10th, 2017 at 8:46PM, Marina Police Officers responded to a report of an adult male with a gunshot wound on Reservation Rd. Further investigation revealed the male had been shot during an attempted robbery on West Bay St. in Sand City. The victim was transported to Natividad Medical Center with a non life threatening injury.

12/17/2017: Officer Involved Shooting

On December 17, 2017, at approximately 9:06 p.m., Monterey Police Officers responded to a 911 call from a family member that Andrew Lee Jones (DOB 4/26/77) was agitated and armed with a knife and firearm in the 100 block of Surf Way. During the preliminary investigation, it appears that as officers responded to the call, Jones shot at the officers. Two officers, a 15-year veteran and a 12-year veteran, returned fire. The officers were not injured. Jones, who has a prior felony criminal history in another state, was struck and transported to a trauma center where he is expected to survive.

12/12/2017: Firearms Possession Arrests

On December 11th, 2017 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Monterey Police Patrol Officers conducted a pro-active foot patrol along the waterfront area of downtown Monterey. While on Wharf 2, officers contacted several subjects near a vehicle. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of 21-years-old Jonathan Garate of Castroville for possession of a stolen handgun. The handgun had been reported stolen from a residence in the City of Pacific Grove in November, 2017.

12/12/2017: City of Monterey Introduces Pharmaceutical Drug Drop Off

The City of Monterey is proud to announce that it has implemented a pharmaceutical drug take back program that is now available to the public. The public may safely and anonymously dispose of unused/expired prescription or over-the-counter medication through the City's Prescription Drug Drop Box Program. No needles, syringes or liquids are accepted.
