08/14/2019: Traffic Fatality

On August 14, 2019 at approximately 8:59 a.m. a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic fatality occurred at Madison Street and Pacific Street, Monterey. The Monterey Police Department (MPD) and Monterey Fire Department were on-scene immediately after the accident occurred. Car week in Monterey has arrived and the Monterey Police Department (MPD) would like to remind drivers to obey the rules of the road. Last year during car week, the MPD saw an in increase in speed related violations, equipment violations, and truck route violations. 07/16/2019: PRVNT Homicide Arrests

On 5/21/19 at 1:12 PM, a homicide occurred in the City of Seaside. The victim, Tremain Calloway was shot multiple times while driving in the area of 1500 Yosemite Street. Calloway died at the scene of his injuries. The Seaside Police Department and the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT) investigated the homicide. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

07/06/2019: Attempted Homicide

On July 6, 2019 at approximately 8:43 P.M., the Monterey Police Department (MPD) responded to multiple calls of a large fight involving approximately fifteen to twenty subjects in the area of Figueroa Street and Del Monte Avenue. One witness related they observed one of the subjects with a gun. When Monterey Police arrived at the scene, they were advised that a subject pulled a gun and pointed it at several people and pulled the trigger. The victims heard a click and the magazine from the firearm fell to the ground. The victims tackled the suspect and the suspect then escaped when a second suspect pulled a knife and threatened the victims. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

07/02/2019: Armed Robbery Series Arrest

Subsequent to the media release regarding these cases, PRVNT received several tips from the community regarding the identity of the suspect. Garrett Carter, 27 of Monterey, was identified as a suspect and was located in a vehicle parked in a parking lot in the 300 block of Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey. The Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team and its law enforcement partners are investigating a series of armed robberies on the Monterey Peninsula.On 6/29/19 at 10:14 AM, a robbery occurred at a business in the 400 block of Canyon Del Rey Road in Del Rey Oaks. The suspect entered the business and brandished a handgun at an employee of the business while demanding money. After receiving money, the suspect fled on foot. 05/04/2019: Public Information - Solicitation for Sex Arrest

On May 03, 2019 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Monterey Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a male subject who had approached a female adult and asked her to have sex with him in the area of Montecito Avenue and Dela Vina Avenue, Monterey. When she told him no, he began following her through a nearby apartment complex. Good Samaritans in the area helped by walking the victim home and the suspect left the area.

MULTI-DISCIPLINARY OUTREACH TEAM (MDOT) FOCUSES ON LOCAL HOMELESS ISSUES AND RELATED QUALITY OF LIFE IMPACTS

WHO: The Monterey Police Department and City of Monterey, Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, Monterey County Adult Protective Services, Montage Health/Community Health Innovations, Monterey County Behavioral Health, and the local YWCA.

WHAT: Partnering agencies will hold a joint press conference to introduce a new Multi-Disciplinary Outreach Team (MDOT). MDOT evolved from both the Homeless Exchange and a City Liaison group, led by the Monterey Police Department.

WHERE: The steps of Colton Hall Lawn at Monterey City Hall, 580 Pacific Street, Monterey, California, 93940

WHEN: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2019

WHY: To introduce this new collaborative resource that provides broad expertise to address prevalent issues affecting the community, including homelessness, quality of life complaints, domestic violence, substance abuse, and associated chronic health life-style issues. These collaborations have developed strong connections that have resulted in team problem solving efforts that include input and ideas to creative and long-lasting solutions.

Individual interview opportunities as well as success story handouts will be available after the press conference.
