In 2020, the City of Monterey is celebrating the 250th anniversary of its founding in 1770. To commemorate this historic milestone, the City of Monterey is calling for artists to submit proposals for a mural and sculpture. The unveiling of new and permanent public art will be a part of a series of celebrations in the summer of 2020.

Iconic Tile Mural Returns to the Monterey Conference Center
The City of Monterey will host a celebration to re-dedicate the restored Monterey Mural to the Monterey Conference Center. Thursday, November 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the corner of Pacific Street and Del Monte Avenue.

For the first time in its 169 year history, Colton Hall is accessible to visitors with special needs. The City of Monterey has completed a $353,000 improvement project, which includes a reconstruction of the back stairs and deck, a new stair lift to provide Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access to the second floor, a new ADA compliant restroom that can accommodate a wheelchair, an access ramp in the rear courtyard, and an adjacent ADA parking area. The Museums and Cultural Arts Commission is happy to announce the inaugural show and reception at the Alvarado Gallery inside the newly reopened Monterey Conference Center. The show, Monterey Photo Contest, debuted at the Monterey Conference Center Grand Opening Celebration on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.

The Museums and Cultural Arts Office of the City of Monterey is announcing the opening of a Public Art Auction. The City has released 12 of the 25 pieces of art that were recently de-accessioned from the City of Monterey’s Art Collection. The items were outside the scope of the City’s collection policy. Although many other pieces were able to be placed in other public institutions, these 12 will be publicly auctioned off through Public Surplus.
