07/26/2021: Library Reopens and the Bookmobile Rides Again

The Monterey Public Library, the first library in Monterey County to offer sidewalk service beginning in June 2020, is proud to welcome patrons for services inside the library after the COVID-19 pandemic caused city facilities to close last March. The building reopens on Tuesday, July 27. Hours will be Tuesdays – Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sidewalk Service will continue from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at a special service window immediately south of the Library’s Pacific Street entrance. Monterey Fire Department is hosting an open house on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Station #13, 401 Dela Vina Avenue in the Villa Del Monte Neighborhood. With help from Monterey Recreation and the Monterey Public Library, the event will feature many fun activities for families of all ages:

  • Vaccination clinic offering Moderna or Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) (18+ yrs old) vaccines, and the Pfizer (12+ yrs old) vaccine;
  • Two brand new fire engines on display - a Wildland Fire Engine and Type 1 Engine;
  • Fire safety information with an emphasis on being prepared for wildfires;
  • Face Painting;
  • Arts and crafts;
  • FireFighter Challenge Course;
  • Free throw contest at the adjacent Montecito Park;
  • Bookmobile visit;
  • Hot dogs, chips, drinks, cotton candy, and popcorn

06/08/2020: Library Reopens for Grab and Go Curbside Pickup

The Monterey Public Library is reopening beginning Thursday, June 11, 2020 exclusively for grab and go curbside pickup of Library materials. Hours to start will be Tuesdays through Saturdays 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Customers will receive a notice that their hold is ready for pickup. They must bring their library card, wear a face mask, and practice social distancing. The community currently has over 2,000 items on hold for pick up. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF
