Are you creative, responsible, enthusiastic, enjoy being around children and working outdoors? If your answer is yes, we have the perfect summer job for you! Applications for Day Camp Counselors, Playground Leaders, Resident Camp Cook, Resident Camp Counselors, Resident Camp Support Staff, and Field Sports Recreation Leaders are now being accepted at the Monterey Recreation office. Applicants need to be 16 years of age or older. Application deadline is Friday, March 16 at 5:00 p.m. All applicants will be invited to a group leader assessment interview on Saturday, March 24, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Employment will begin in June. Those hired must be able to work the entire summer.

The 25th annual First Night Monterey community celebration of the arts kicks off at 3 PM on Sunday, December 31st on Pacific Street and Colton Lawn with Kids’ Night Out! This alcohol-free, family New Year’s Eve celebration continues to midnight and features a procession, live music and interactive art activities in downtown Monterey at both inside and outside locations all within walking distance. 12/20/2017: Monterey City Manager Resigns

Monterey, CA. – City Manager Mike McCarthy has tendered his resignation to the City Council and the City Council accepted it on December 19, 2017. Hans Uslar will continue as Acting City Manager. The City Council will hold a Special Meeting this Friday, December 22, to consider appointing Hans Uslar as the Interim City Manager.

“The Council and I have great confidence in Hans and the strong City team,” said Mayor Clyde Roberson. “During this transition, our excellent staff will continue providing the highest standard of service to our residents, businesses and the community.”

Join us on the lawn in front of Colton Hall to share in this traditional, much-loved Monterey holiday celebration. This free holiday event features a performance by Monterey’s Community Band.

Participants are encouraged to submit photos in any of the three categories; environment - sky, beach, mountain, park and wildlife; architecture - urban design, cityscapes, landmarks and infrastructure; and culture & community - people of all ages involved in sports, art activities and enjoying special events.
