An intergovernmental support agreement (IGSA) between the cities of Monterey and Seaside’s Presidio Municipal Service Agency (PMSA) and Presidio of Monterey (POM) has earned a 2019 Army Community Partnership Award from the Department of the Army. At the October 15, 2019 City Council Regular Meeting, the City Council, staff, and members of the public discussed the immediate and long-term budget challenges facing the City, and the exploration of a fiscal emergency declaration. City Manager Hans Uslar is pleased to announce today the appointment of Mr. Nat Rojanasathira as the new City of Monterey Assistant City Manager. Rojanasathira is a local government management executive with over 16 years of experience, including four years on the Monterey Peninsula where he worked for both the City of Pacific Grove and the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau. He comes back to Monterey from the Town of Danville in the East Bay, where he was Administrative Services Director, acquiring strong experience managing human resources, information technology, finance, economic development, community engagement, special events, performance management, and legislative advocacy. His roles also extend to working closely with libraries, museums, and parks.

Based on an initiative by the Mayors of the cities of Pacific Grove and Monterey, the City of Monterey is hosting a summit with emergency personnel from neighboring agencies to discuss the current status of emergency evacuation plans.

City Manager Hans Uslar announced today the appointment of Kristi McClure Huckaby as Parks and Recreation Director. Ms. Huckaby has over 25 years’ experience working in and managing Parks and Recreation Departments in Southern California; cities both large and small, including the cities of Long Beach, Downey, Signal Hill, Placencia, Sierra Madre, Chula Vista, and most recently the City of Corona.

After a unanimous decision at last evening’s closed session, the Monterey City Council is happy to announce Hans Uslar was selected as the next City Manager. This selection follows a rigorous recruitment process with many qualified candidates, conducted by Dave Morgan, an Executive Recruiter with Ralph Anderson and Associates. The Council voted to offer Uslar a three year contract with a $241,632 annual salary. The Council will vote on the contract in open session on August 7, 2018.

Monterey, CA. – City Manager Mike McCarthy has tendered his resignation to the City Council and the City Council accepted it on December 19, 2017. Hans Uslar will continue as Acting City Manager. The City Council will hold a Special Meeting this Friday, December 22, to consider appointing Hans Uslar as the Interim City Manager.
“The Council and I have great confidence in Hans and the strong City team,” said Mayor Clyde Roberson. “During this transition, our excellent staff will continue providing the highest standard of service to our residents, businesses and the community.”
