07/16/2019: PRVNT Homicide Arrests

On 5/21/19 at 1:12 PM, a homicide occurred in the City of Seaside. The victim, Tremain Calloway was shot multiple times while driving in the area of 1500 Yosemite Street. Calloway died at the scene of his injuries. The Seaside Police Department and the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT) investigated the homicide. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

WHO: City of Monterey Vice-Mayor Dan Albert, City Manager Hans Uslar, and Monterey Conference Center General Manager Doug Phillips will host a symbolic “flipping of the switch” to celebrate the activation of the new solar panels. City of Monterey Engineers, and the Solar Contractor, Solex - Applied Solar Energy of Pacific Grove, will be available to answer questions.

WHAT: A media event hosted by the City of Monterey to officially dedicate the activation of the new solar panels at the Monterey Conference Center.

WHERE: Monterey Conference Center, Stevenson Terrace, 2nd floor, One Portola Plaza.

WHEN: Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 11:00 A.M.

WHY: The Monterey Conference Center is one-step closer to being rated a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified facility, aiming toward Platinum certification. A Platinum LEED certification is the highest rating obtainable by the U.S. Green Building Council for energy efficiency. The City of Monterey and the Monterey Conference Center are focused on reducing our carbon footprint and committed to sustainability. Learn about the estimated energy in kWh production per year, the estimate of cost savings, and about the type of solar photovoltaic panels installed. A project facts sheet will be provided.

07/09/2019: Be Prepared in Case of an Earthquake - What to do before, during, and after

The recent strong earthquakes that hit the Ridgecrest area in Southern California are a good reminder that we all live in earthquake country. Many earthquake faults run through or near the Monterey Peninsula. The Monterey Fire Department would like to remind people that, while we may not know when the next earthquake will happen, we can do things to be prepared. A list of recommended actions on what to do before, during, and after an earthquake is available at ready.gov/earthquakes, as well as on the City’s website at monterey.org/emergency. 07/06/2019: Attempted Homicide

On July 6, 2019 at approximately 8:43 P.M., the Monterey Police Department (MPD) responded to multiple calls of a large fight involving approximately fifteen to twenty subjects in the area of Figueroa Street and Del Monte Avenue. One witness related they observed one of the subjects with a gun. When Monterey Police arrived at the scene, they were advised that a subject pulled a gun and pointed it at several people and pulled the trigger. The victims heard a click and the magazine from the firearm fell to the ground. The victims tackled the suspect and the suspect then escaped when a second suspect pulled a knife and threatened the victims. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF
