06/30/2020: City Offers No-Charge Permits for Local Businesses to Expand Services Outside to Encourage Patronage - Added Precautions to Meet COVID-19 Social Distancing Rules

In another effort to help local businesses severely impacted by the economic damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Monterey is proactively offering retail and restaurant businesses an opportunity to expand outdoors. Businesses can apply for a temporary encroachment permit that would allow them to move their products and services onto the sidewalk in front of their business location, without impacting streets or parking stalls. The application along with a "to scale" drawing of the table/chairs layout is required to ensure Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

02/28/2020: City Unveils Virtual Bike Rack Locator Map

In pursuit of continuing to improve alternative transportation infrastructure throughout Monterey, the City of Monterey boasts a number of bicycle rack locations to encourage use of bicycles as a prime means of commuting. Newly created maps show the locations of these bicycle racks to conveniently park and secure bikes. The maps are both printable at www.monterey.org/bicycles and on a Google-type interactive map layer within the Property Review map linked from the City’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) web page at www.monterey.org/gis. 02/08/2018: City of Monterey Commits to Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Program

The City of Monterey's commitment to healthy eating and active living has taken a step further in the New Year. Monterey has joined with more than 180 cities throughout California in the Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Cities Campaign. The HEAL Cities Campaign aims to reduce and prevent obesity by engaging municipal leaders to champion healthy eating and active living in their communities through adoption of policy and promotion of opportunities for residents and municipal employees.
