Especially for Seniors
Senior Volunteers age 55 and above are eligible to join the Retired
Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) through their affiliation with the City of Monterey, which
is a member organization.
RSVP volunteers are
provided with accident, personal liability and excess automobile liability insurance. The
accident and excess automobile liability coverage are intended to provide higher levels of
insurance for volunteers, starting where other insurance coverage stops. Volunteers are
often not covered by personal liability insurance, in which case the personal liability
insurance becomes primary insurance with no deductible.
- Accident Insurance
Accident insurance covers RSVP volunteers for personal injury during travel between
their homes and places of assignment, during meal periods while serving as a volunteer,
and while attending project sponsored activities, such as recognition events, orientation,
and meetings.
- Excess Automobile Liability Insurance
This insurance provides coverage to avoid the gap between that provided by the
Volunteer's personal vehicle insurance and liability claims in excess of that coverage up
to $500,000 for bodily injury and/or property damage. RSVP provides protection against
claims in excess of the greater of either the liability insurance volunteers carry on
their own automobiles or the limits of the applicable state financial responsibility law,
or in the absence of such law, $25,000 each person and $50,000 each accident for property
damage.
- Personal Liability Insurance
RSVP provides third party protection against injury or property damage claims arising
out of volunteer service activities not to exceed $1,000,000 for each occurrence of
personal injury or property damage, and shall be in excess of any other valid and
collectible insurance. This does not include, nor is it a substitute for, malpractice
insurance if applicable.
- Additional benefits provided by membership include:
Mileage reimbursement for travel expenses
Retired Senior Volunteer Newsletter
Special yearly recognition luncheon for Senior volunteers
(sponsored by RSVP).
