Purpose |
Must be able to commit to one Saturday per
month for the duration of the yearly five-month monitoring program. A one-day training
session is provided. Volunteers will use a dry weather monitoring kit to detect urban
runoff pollutants coming from storm drains, which lead directly into the Monterey Bay
national Marine Sanctuary. This program does include the controlled use of some chemicals.
Safety training and equipment is provided. |

Duties |
Participate in an important water quality
project, which will help to eliminate pollutant sources, which threaten the Monterey
Bay. The goal of the program is to monitor dry weather discharges from storm drains,
which are typically higher in pollutants than storm water discharges. |

Qualifications |
Interest in
environmental preservation. Some education in environmental/marine science
helpful, but not necessary. Ability to perform detailed tasks in a focused
manner. |

Time Commitment |
5 months plus training workshop. |
