Citizens' Police Academy

Service Area City of Monterey
Purpose Provides opportunity to citizens to learn about police work in the City of Monterey. Prerequisite for volunteering with the Volunteers in Police program. Academy consists of 12 weeks of weekly classes, including opportunity to ride along on patrol. You will learn firsthand about the power of arrest, see a criminal case develop, talk to police officers, supervisors and Chief of Police. Firearms demonstrations and other activities are included. A representative from the district attorney's office, a public defender, and a superior court judge also participate.
Qualifications Must be a resident or employed in the City of Monterey. Minimum age of 19 years. No misdemeanor arrests in the past twelve months. No felony convictions anywhere, EVER. You will be placed on an eligibility list and notified from that list.
Time  Commitment Offered twice a year, 12 classes per academy, 6:00-9:00 p.m., dates vary. Contact Public Education Officer Adam Costa for current dates and to apply to the Citizens' Police Academy.
