Purpose |
The City of Monterey is seeking guides to
staff the museum on the Lower Presidio Historic Park. |
|
Duties |
Presidio Guides' primary duty will be
interpreting the history of the presidio of Monterey to museum visitors. As the Lower
Presidio Historic Park is developed, guides must be able to point visitors to different
parts of the park: answering questions about the history of Monterey, and of the U.S.
Army. Guides will be able to offer suggestions of other locations of historic interest in
Monterey, and to answer questions in general about the history of Monterey and California.
Guides will also sell merchandise from the Presidio Museum shop area which include being
responsible for accounting for money taken in for sales, and turning it over to Presidio
Museum Coordinator. Guides will provide museum security, including - if no other guide or
staff member is in the building - turning off the alarm when entering the museum building,
and turning on the alarm when leaving the building. |

Qualifications |
Guide volunteers will be required to
participate in a training course in the history of Monterey, in the history of the U.S.
Army, and most specifically, in the history of the Presidio of Monterey. Once a volunteer
has passed the training course, he/she will be certified as a training Presidio Guide, and
will be eligible to serve as a guide in the museum. |

Time Commitment |
Guides will be expected to work a regular
schedule of hours in order to keep the museum open an a regular basis. |
