Purpose |
The Born to
Read Volunteer assists the Youth Services Librarian in assembling and
distributing Born to Read materials and/or provides support as needed during
the programs. |
|
Duties |
1. Assembles Born to Read
packets for distribution to new parents by the Home Health Services nurses
of the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
2. Distributes Born to Read packets, flyers and other Born to Read materials
to Home Health Services nurses, Family Birth Center instructors, local
businesses, and other community groups serving babies and their families.
3. Puts Monterey Public Library labels on gift books.
4. Provides support to the program presenter and helps the audience as
needed. |

Qualifications |
The ideal Born to Read
Volunteer…
> Believes in the importance of reading aloud to babies.
> Has a car or other transportation and is able to deliver materials
to various locations in Monterey.
> Communicates well with adults.
> Enjoys working with parents, babies, and children.
> Is able to work independently.
> Is accurate and attentive to detail.
> Is responsible, committed and punctual. |

Training |
A 2-hour training session will
be provided by the Youth Services staff. |
|
Time Commitment |
Approximately 3-5 hours a month.
Minimum commitment of 6 months. |
