Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
 

Service Area Your Neighborhood and City
Purpose The main goal of CERT is to help the citizens of Monterey to be self-sufficient in a major disaster by developing multi-functional teams that are cross trained in basic skills. After completing the program, you will be able to function as a member of a team or as a team leader for a neighborhood response team.
Duties Completion of the CERT Training six week training course and continued skills updates; willingness to serve as part of neighborhood emergency response team in your neighborhood during disasters or to lead a team; available for assistance in other areas during disasters as needed. Quarterly skills training required to maintain and improve CERT skills. Willingness to serve as disaster volunteer in neighborhood assistance and other areas as agreed.
Qualifications Ability to learn and perform required survival training; willingness to serve on or organize a neighborhood team, and to serve as needed in times of disaster; commit to 6 month skills updates.
Time  Commitment Initial class is 6 weeks, one night per week, 6:30-9:30 p.m., Call Monterey Fire Department at 646.3900 for current schedule.
