Community Survey 2000 - Comprehensive Summary

This year’s annual citizen survey resulted in 673 responses. It included ratings on the City’s appearance, government and services; neighborhood, traffic and safety issues; and City Council meetings on cable TV.

City Appearance
The following items have comparison data with the past few years:
City Park Maintenance; Street Cleanliness; Street Conditions; and City Medians, Greenbelts and Street Trees. The next figure displays the trends for these items in terms of the percentage of "average or better" ratings.

There was a decline in the past two years for Street Conditions. City Beach Maintenance, a new addition, received 95% "average or better" ratings;
Overall City Cleanliness received the same (96%).

City Government
Only one item in this area had been asked before: ratings of Code/Zoning Regulation Enforcement. It showed little change from 1997 (85% "average or better"), to 1998 (86%), and 2000 (84%). The new items in this area are shown below with percent "average or better" ratings:

Among the highest on the survey are Efforts to Preserve Parks/Open Space and Historic Resources and the City Focus newsletter. In general, Keeping You Informed about City Services, Events and Issues did well. Less favorable were Opportunities to Participate in the City Decision-Making Process and Considers/Listens to Citizen Comments/Input.
