Appliance Efficiency Rebates

It Pays to Save Water and Energy

These rebate programs are yet another way to  help you save energy, money and our natural resources

When purchasing new appliances for your home, consider looking at those that use less energy or less water, but still get the job done. In an effort to encourage the switch to these ultra-efficient types of appliances, many organizations, like your local water company as well as larger ones like PG&E, offer cash rebates for customers who purchase certain pre-qualified appliances.  Sometimes these rebates can offset the increased costs for purchasing the ultra-efficient models.

Don't forget to check at the stores for their own rebate programs. Additionally, staff at appliance stores will have the most up-to-date information about the latest energy-efficient products.

WATER REBATES

Water is scarce in Monterey and the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District is here to help you conserve this valuable resource. MPWMD offers great reward programs to residents and businesses that are willing to make the switch to water conserving operations. For more information on the rebate programs for water conserving appliances, contact the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District's rebate application.

ENERGY REBATES

Energy efficient choices can save families about a third on their energy bill - saving money, reducing your carbon footprint, and making a statement - without sacrificing features, style or comfort.

The California Energy Commission has the "Cash for Appliances" program when you recycle your old appliances and purchase new energy efficient models: http://www.cash4appliances.org/

PG & E

Pacific Gas and Electric offers a variety of rebates for qualified lighting products and appliances. Appliances typically include dishwashers, heating and cooling equipment, washers, dryers, air conditioners, water heaters and more.

To find out if your recent or future purchases qualify for cash rebates through PG&E, click here.

Purchasing a New Refrigerator? Don't Trash It – Recycle It

Did you know that PG&E offers $35 rebates for recycling your old refrigerator? And $25 for your old air conditioner?

  • Recycle that old working refrigerator or freezer. If it's over 10 years old, it could be using up to three times more energy than newer models. PG&E will pick it up and pay you $35.
  • Recycle that old room air conditioner that just blows tepid air. PG&E will take that off your hands and give you $25.

Refrigerators and freezers have components or fluids that can be hazardous or toxic. Arrange to have them recycled safely. For more information or specific details about the program, click here.

ENERGY STAR

To encourage customers to buy energy efficient products, periodic rebates are available through ENERGY STAR  such as sales tax exemptions credits, or rebates on qualified resource efficient products.

What is Energy Star?

Energy Star is an international standard for energy efficient consumer products that has been in place since 1992. ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.

Devices carrying the Energy Star logo, such as computer products, kitchen appliances, buildings and other products, save an average of 20%-30% of electricity.

If looking for new household products, look for ones that have earned the ENERGY STAR. They meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and US Department of Energy.
