   Outstanding Programs
Monterey High School

An earth friendly bunch of students have been leading the way at Monterey High School! The combination of the Spanish Club, and the Green team has helped implement a full scale recycling program campus wide at MHS. The STUDENTS are responsible for the collection of all the recycling around campus, and that isn't an easy task! For all their hard work, they have helped keep over 20,000 lbs of material out of the landfill this year alone! Amazing!

The Art class had graciously volunteered to paint twelve green recycling containers that were donated to them by Monterey City Disposal Service. The intention is to follow the recycling theme and graphics but to make it more fun and encourage yet more recycling throughout the school.

These containers will be placed strategically around campus for additional awareness of the recycling program. Great work you Creative Conservationist!

Marshall Elementary

Marshall Elementary as participated in the Monterey Regional Waste Management's Waste Free School program. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is a mantra lovable Recycle Rex introduced to us last year during a recycle assembly, one which now has become a visible part of our lives at Marshall. Our new challenge begins in the cafeteria—having a Waste Free Lunch at Marshall school. January 18th is our assembly kickoff. Let’s “pack home what we packed to school”, use reusable lunch bags and containers, bring refillable beverage containers and start to curb the enormous waste we generate and cast off in landfills back to the planet.

Small Planet School Recycling Program

Santa Catalina
The students at Santa Catalina school should be commended for their amazing conservation efforts across the campus. Not only are they partnering with a sister city in the Netherlands to reduce their carbon footprints by creating and growing an organic garden for their cafeteria faire, they are also head and shoulders above many organizations with their waste reduction programs!

They have an incredibly supportive administration with a solid group of environmental champions running the program.

Science classes entail experiments that actually teach their high school students how to recycle an aluminum can! Wow!

They don't need any help from us, so Keep up the great work!
