CITY OF MONTEREY SOLID WASTE & RECYCLING DIVISION

   Curbside Recycling

The Fantastic Three!

Residents in the City of Monterey are provided with three receptacles at single family homes. (Click to learn what goes in each)

Many question why the Recycling bin is larger than the Garbage and it is because the City of Monterey has made recycling so easy the typical household produces more recycling than garbage. All recyclables (bottles, cans, newspaper, magazines, plastics, cardboard and regular paper) goes in one bin, the big blue one! Recycling reduces the amount of waste you put out for collection... which may help reduce your garbage costs! No More Sorting!

Why Commingled Recycling?  Research shows participation and recycling levels increase when sorting is not required.  Commingled recycling is more efficient because collection trucks can hold more materials in a single load.  New recycling technology allows materials to be sorted at a central location.

Thanks for helping make Monterey a leader
in recycling and waste prevention!
