Public Works Employees of the Year

The following staff have been recognized by the Public Works Department for their outstanding contributions. They are all an asset to the Public Works Department and excellent representatives for our City.

Chuck Finnell | Javier Galvan | Richard Llantero | Robert Robe
Miguel Santos | Alan Sims | Robert Sitzman

Miguel Santos
Custodian
General Services Division

As we all know, the quiet worker often does not get the recognition deserved. Each day, Miguel approaches his job with a smile and he is considerate and respectful of customers and his fellow workers. Miguel is consistent in his strong work ethic, he does not dwell on minor problems, and he is one of most reliable and steadfast employees that the custodial section has.
Miguel understands the value of doing a job well and that being respectful, dedicated and hard working is important, and he does not let anyone or anything interfere with his commitment. Today we recognize him for the respect he shows everyone, the good work he performs each day and the contribution he makes to our City.

Alan Sims
Street Maintenance Worker
Streets Division

Alan, for the past year, has operated the street sweeper daily in a professional, courteous manner, pleasing many a City resident with clean gutter lines and streets. With an excellent attendance record, he keeps on schedule and is also available to work on crew projects when needed. Alan has been a great asset to the Division not only with his great attitude, “can-do mindset” and even disposition, but also for his construction skills and driving experience. As a former long-haul trucker, he was the obvious choice to pick up a new water truck in Illinois last fall and drive it back to Monterey. Alan has an exceptional work ethic and an outstanding safety record.

Robert Sitzman
Public Works Inspector
Construction Management Division

Robert is recognized for his technical knowledge and expertise in the construction of Public Works projects. His vast understanding, experience and thoroughness are instrumental in the Construction Management Division’s operations.
Robert is also recognized in his diligence and willingness to help in the completion of projects. His dedication to his work and to the City is greatly appreciated as shown on his efforts for the last 12 years working as a part timer. He has been instrumental in the completion of several major City projects such as the Materials Recovery Facility, Marina Replacement and Landfill Launch ramp Modifications.
