inspector statewide. Paul has great field instincts
that assist him in solving complex inspection issues
with poise and confidence. He is dedicated to his job

Shay Balesteri –
Street Maintenance Worker |
|
Shay’s
dedication and commitment to
earning a California Water Environment Association (CWEA)
Collection System Grade I certification is an
inspiration to his coworkers. The City benefits greatly
from his technical knowledge in this area. The City
also benefits from his welding skills. He has used this
talent and ingenuity to fabricate parts, sign frames and
custom designed storm grates. We greatly appreciate his
contributions to the success of the Streets Division by
applying himself to the tasks at hand, his quest for
knowledge, and his problem-solving skills. He has
helped save the division money, shared crucial knowledge
with co-workers and, above all, brought a positive,
can-do attitude to work.

Kip Johnson –
Cemetery Maintenance Worker |
|
Kip is
willing to go anywhere and do anything that is
asked of him. He consistently gives 100% effort in all
his duties including weed-eating along the recreation
trail, hand-weeding traffic islands, or doing litter
control at the lake. His desire to continue to learn
and educate himself on the finer points of irrigation
repair is an inspiration to his coworkers. In addition,
Kip, has helped out tremendously with the transition of
the Cemetery Coordinator by working side-by-side with
the current Coordinator. |

Terry Ledba – Executive Assistant II |
|
Terry is a consummate
optimist and cheerleader. Her infectious attitude
enables one to deal gracefully with difficult situations
and to consistently encourage our ever-able staff to
best serve the community. She never lacks a smile and
is always thinking about ways to improve our numerous
processes and functions. Of note is her aptitude in
dissecting the City's new filing system, translating
gibberish from public meetings into recognizable
minutes, and organizing a myriad of ageless files in her
very own jail. We truly appreciate her and her efforts
on behalf of the City. |

Uli Maras – Parts
Clerk |
|
In the past year, Uli’s
efforts have greatly increased the efficiency and
effectiveness of the Building Maintenance Warehouse and
the Fleet Services’s warehouse. For example, his
ability to quickly learn and implement the bar code
system is a prime example of improvements he helped
establish. We appreciate his desire to find improved
ways to conduct business, his ability to think “outside
the box,” and his great sense of humor that has made
work a more enjoyable place for all. We look forward to
his future with the City.

Steve Morton –
Arborist |
|
Over
the last year, Steve has stepped up to the plate and
delivered a super effort with managing his increased
responsibilities at both the Presidio of Monterey and
the Naval Post Graduate School. He has also been of
great assistance to the Urban Forester by completing
high volumes of professional tree care throughout the
city working with our open-end tree contractor West
Coast Arborists. He continues to gain praise from
residents and homeowners by inspecting trees and
educating them on the proper care and maintenance for
their own trees. We appreciate his dedication and hard
work, and look forward to great things in his future
with the City. |

past year, Sharon has played an integral role in the
successful completion of the remodel of the building at
735 Pacific Street and in the re-organization of the
Plans & Public Works Department. She has displayed a
tremendous amount of initiative and organizational
skills in the oversight of the invoices and contracts
for the 735 Pacific St. project. Her sensitivity to the
needs of the staff impacted by the move to the new
building helped to greatly ease the transition and is

efforts in combining and streamlining the budget for the
next fiscal year. |

Bill Vos – Parts Clerk |
|
Since the
introduction of the Parts Clerk to the
Fleet Services
Division, Bill has been instrumental to the success of
the Department in many ways. He has implemented and
organized the parts room, created and documented an
inventory into Hansen, tracked parts and distribution
centers for the Mechanics, cataloged for easier
recognition of warranty and repair items, and price
checking to make sure the City is getting fair and
quality parts. He has done all this in a motivating
manner and with an approachable sense of humor and
intellect. |
