Smart Parkcards

ParkcardThe City of Monterey Parking Division offers Smart Parkcards for use at specific individual parking meters located throughout the City. The new parking meters located on Municipal Wharf II do not accept smartcards.

The Smart Parkcard which resembles a phone card, is encoded with a computer chip that enables the public to purchase a pre-determined amount of parking ($10, $25, $50 and $100) for use at specific parking meters. To use it a person inserts the card in the slot on the meter. The meter will first display the amount of credit left on the card and then every couple of seconds 25-cent increments are subtracted. Once the desired time is achieved the card is removed.

The purchase of a Smart Parkcard does not guarantee a parking space. Smart Parkcards are very durable with normal usage.  Make sure to keep the card away from extreme heat, water moisture, and electrical shock. If for a parking meter does not accept the parkcard,  please use coin or move your vehicle to another metered space and call the Parking Maintenance section at 831-646-3990 to report the malfunction.

The parkcards have no expiration date and are valid until all the all the credit on card has been used up. The parkcard is not refillable No refunds will be issued for unused, lost, stolen or damaged cards.  The parkcards do not work at pay stations.

You may purchase a Smart Parkcard at the Parking Division Office, 340 Tyler Street, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  For more information call the Parking Division at 646.3953.
