14. Where does the money go that is
collected from the parking meters and citations?
All revenue received from parking operations, including

maintenance and bond debt liabilities of the Parking Division. The Parking Fund also
maintains reserves for future parking facilities, such as new structures and lots.
The Parking Fund is an enterprise fund, therefore all income generated from Parking Division operations must be
deposited in the Parking Fund and must be used to fund parking operations and projects and
cannot be used for other City General Fund projects.

Smart Parkcards, which resemble phone cards, are
encoded with a computer chip that enable the public to purchase a pre-determined amount of
parking for use at the meters. To use them a person inserts the card in the slot on the
meter. The meter will first show the amount of credit left on the card and then every
couple of seconds 25-cent increments are subtracted. Once the desired time is achieved the
card is removed. The card is valid until all the credit has been used up. The cards are
nonrefundable and if you lose them it is the same as losing cash.
