MADD Crashed Car Exhibit on Display in Monterey
On Thursday, April 3, 2008, the Monterey Police
Department began displaying a Crashed Car Exhibit Trailer at various
locations throughout the City. This 3-D educational tool, on loan
from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) depicts a vehicle involved
in an alcohol-related collision to demonstrate the real life
devastation that can result when an impaired driver gets behind the
wheel. The exhibit will be on display at various locations in the
City of Monterey through Tuesday, April 8, 2008, with the intention
of reducing DUI crashes, promoting MADD’s mission, and building
community awareness about the impact of driving under the influence.
The display schedule is as follows:
-
Thursday, April 3 (6pm-11pm) – Alvarado Street
-
Friday, April 4 (5pm – 12am) – Alvarado Street
-
Saturday, April 5 (6pm-11pm) – Del Monte
Shopping Center
-
Tuesday, April 8 (8am – 3pm) – Monterey High
School
The Monterey Police Department takes a very
proactive approach to addressing the problem of driving under the
influence (DUI). Through an aggressive enforcement campaign, as well
as by providing education at the high school level and through a
partnership with the hospitality industry, the Monterey Police
Department hopes to significantly reduce the prevalence of this
public safety hazard. In 2007, 339 drivers were arrested in the City
of Monterey for driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or
drugs, 14 of those were as a result of the driver being involved in
a traffic collision. Our goal is to provide DUI education, awareness
and prevention to the residents and visitors of the City of
Monterey.
