RELEASE:
Immediate
Counterfeit
Money Recovered
On April 9, 2008 at
approximately 7:40 PM, a Monterey Police officer made a traffic stop
on a vehicle for minor traffic violations. During a consent search
of the driver’s person and vehicle, approximately $900 worth of
counterfeit ten (10) and twenty (20) dollar bills was located. The
driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Kyle Signorella of Carmel,
was arrested for possession of counterfeit money.
Signorella was
arrested and booked at the Monterey City Jail where he was held on
$10,000.00 bail. Signorella was transferred to the Monterey County
Jail late last night.
During the
subsequent investigation, the Monterey Police Department developed
information that the counterfeit bills were possibly being produced
within the City of Monterey. With the assistance of the United
States Secret Service, Monterey Police served a search warrant on a
residence in the City where it is believed the counterfeit bills
were being printed.
Following the
service of the warrant, the case was forwarded to the Monterey
County District Attorney’s Office with a request that charges be
filed against the resident of that home for possession of a
counterfeiting device.
